ZIPAIR Tokyo Starlink WiFi — Full Fleet

ZIPAIR Tokyo is the low-cost long-haul subsidiary of Japan Airlines and one of the most fully Starlink-equipped airlines in the world. The carrier announced its Starlink partnership in January 2023 — among the first commitments from any Asian airline — and has installed the satellite system on every aircraft it operates. With eight Boeing 787-8s and 100% fleet coverage, ZIPAIR is one of a small number of airlines globally that can offer Starlink as a guaranteed amenity rather than a probability. The fleet is entirely Boeing 787-8s acquired from JAL's mainline operation and reconfigured for higher-density long-haul leisure flying. ZIPAIR operates from Tokyo Narita to a network of US, Canadian and Asian destinations, with the 787s offering the range to reach the US West Coast, Houston and Vancouver non-stop from Japan. Because the fleet is small and the type is uniform, Starlink installation was completed quickly after announcement, well ahead of much larger Asian competitors. For passengers, Starlink is offered free to everyone on board on every flight. ZIPAIR's cabin layout includes standard economy and a flat-bed Full-Flat product at the front of the aircraft, but no class-based gating applies — both share the same connection. This is a deliberate positioning choice: the LCC fare structure with free high-speed Wi-Fi is unusual on long-haul international flying, where free connectivity is more typical of premium full-service airlines than budget operators. Reported in-flight speeds are consistent with what other long-haul Starlink 787 operators see, and the over-water transpacific routes that historically suffered from poor connectivity now perform comparably to short-haul wired Wi-Fi.
