Southwest Airlines Starlink WiFi — Summer 2026 Launch

Southwest Airlines announced Starlink WiFi in February 2026, targeting a summer 2026 launch of the first equipped aircraft. With approximately 300 aircraft expected to be equipped by end of 2026, Southwest is planning one of the fastest initial rollout rates of any US carrier. The airline's all-Boeing 737 fleet of 817 aircraft — spanning 737-700, 737-800, and 737 MAX 8 variants — will be progressively retrofitted. No Southwest aircraft carry Starlink today; the summer 2026 date marks the first in-service deployment. Southwest operates exclusively within the United States — no international routes — with a point-to-point network serving over 100 US cities. The all-737 fleet makes for a simpler rollout than carriers with mixed fleet types. Once installations begin in summer 2026, passengers on routes served by the most recently retrofitted aircraft will have the highest Starlink probability. StarlinkFlights will track which Southwest tail numbers are equipped as data becomes available, enabling route-level probability scoring from launch onwards. Southwest's model is built around no-fees-for-extras: no baggage fees, no change fees, no assigned seating. Starlink fits this model — it will be free for Rapid Rewards members, Southwest's loyalty programme, which is free to join at southwest.com. Given Southwest's enormous domestic scale, a completed Starlink rollout would make it the dominant Starlink provider for US domestic travel.
