ITA Airways Starlink WiFi — Coming 2026

ITA Airways is Italy's flag carrier, launched in October 2021 as the successor to Alitalia following that airline's lengthy insolvency proceedings. Based at Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO), ITA operates a fleet of approximately 100 aircraft serving European short-haul routes, transatlantic services to North America, and long-haul destinations in Africa and Asia. The airline was established as a clean-break entity — no inherited labour contracts, no legacy debt — and has moved quickly to modernise its fleet with A220, A320neo-family, A350-900, and A330-900neo aircraft alongside older A320ceo types from the Alitalia era. ITA's Starlink story is shaped by its ownership structure. Lufthansa Group acquired a 41% stake in ITA Airways in early 2024, with contractual options to increase to full ownership. When Lufthansa Group announced its group-wide Starlink agreement in January 2026, ITA was included in the programme — giving the Italian carrier access to the group's collective rollout infrastructure and installation timelines spanning late 2026 through 2029. No ITA-specific aircraft installation schedule has been published, and zero ITA aircraft are currently confirmed as Starlink-equipped. The fleet composition makes ITA an interesting Starlink candidate: the 16-aircraft A330-900neo fleet for long-haul services, the 5 A350-900 aircraft for premium transatlantic routes, and the 14 A220-300 jets for short-haul — all new-generation types where Starlink retrofits are technically cleaner. The A330-900neo fleet serves ITA's long-haul routes to New York, Boston, Miami, São Paulo, Tokyo, and multiple African destinations — 8–11 hour sectors where connectivity is most valuable. For travellers, the practical takeaway is that Starlink is coming to ITA but has not yet arrived. The A330-900neo and A350-900 widebodies are the types to watch for early installation confirmations, particularly on transatlantic departures from Rome.
