WestJet reports Starlink installed across its Boeing 737 MAX fleet, along with most of its 737-8CT aircraft and select 737NG variants. The airline's 787 Dreamliners and DHC-8 turboprops do not yet have the service. We have independently measured only a small number of WestJet tails ourselves so far, so treat this as the airline's own figure rather than our own confirmation.
Use the flight search tool on this page—enter your flight number or route to see real-time equipment data and Starlink availability. You can also check your booking confirmation or the WestJet app closer to departure, as aircraft assignments are typically finalised in the days before your flight.
WestJet Rewards members receive complimentary access to Starlink WiFi. If you're not a member, you can join the free programme before or during your flight to take advantage of the offer. This makes high-speed internet accessible to the vast majority of WestJet passengers at no additional cost.
Routes operated by Boeing 737 MAX and 737-8CT aircraft are your best bet, including popular domestic corridors, transborder flights to the United States, and sun destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean. Longer international routes flown by 787s do not yet feature Starlink, though installations on widebody aircraft may follow as the rollout continues.
WestJet is in the active phase of its installation programme, with the rollout focused first on its most heavily utilised narrowbody types. While the airline has not announced a specific completion timeline, the pace of installations suggests continued expansion across additional aircraft variants over the coming period.
Starlink delivers dramatically faster speeds, lower latency, and far greater reliability than WestJet's previous satellite connectivity. Passengers report the ability to stream video, participate in video calls, and browse without the frustrating delays that characterised older systems. The difference is especially pronounced on bandwidth-heavy tasks.
If your aircraft isn't equipped, some flights may still offer legacy WiFi, though with more limited performance. You can check availability once onboard. As WestJet continues retrofitting its fleet, the likelihood of encountering Starlink on your next trip increases steadily, particularly on MAX-operated routes.
Yes, Starlink is designed to provide continuous coverage over water as well as land, making it highly effective on transoceanic and over-water routes. However, WestJet's long-haul 787 fleet, which operates many oceanic flights, has not yet been equipped, so Starlink availability on true intercontinental routes remains limited for now.
Technically, Starlink's bandwidth supports video calls, but WestJet—like most airlines—encourages passengers to be considerate of those around them. Check the airline's onboard etiquette guidelines, and if you do make a call, using headphones and keeping your voice low helps maintain a comfortable cabin environment.
WestJet's Starlink service is designed to support general browsing, streaming, messaging, and most online activities. However, extremely high-bandwidth uses or activities that violate the airline's acceptable use policy may be restricted.
