From Terminal 5, take the free ATS shuttle to Terminal 2, then follow signs to CTA. Trains run every 4–30 minutes depending on time of day.

Terminals 1–3 are connected airside, so use it strategically: if you have a layover, the United Club at Concourse C near Gate C10 (Terminal 1) at 22,000 sq ft is the best United Club at ORD and is a short walk from Terminal 3's American gates. For Priority Pass holders in Terminal 5, the Air France Lounge (near Gate M17) opened October 2025 and is far superior to the Swissport Lounge — target it before noon or after 5pm when Priority Pass is accepted, as the window 12pm–5pm is reserved for Air France/KLM passengers. For parking, Economy Lots G and H at $16/day are the best value on-airport but fill up fast on Fridays and before holidays; if full, Lot F ($30/day, covered) is the fallback. The CTA Blue Line runs 24/7 from ORD to the Loop in 40–45 minutes for just $5 — by far the cheapest and most reliable option when traffic is heavy.
TSA PreCheck and CLEAR biometric lanes are available at all four terminals (CLEAR available in Terminals 1, 2, and 3). Combining both programs typically clears security in under 10 minutes. Terminal 3 (American Airlines) has the longest standard security queues especially during weekday rush (5am–9am and 3pm–7pm); allow 25–40 minutes without expedited access. Terminals 1–3 are connected airside after security — clear at the least congested checkpoint and walk to your departure gate. Terminal 5 international security is more complex; allow 30–50 minutes without PreCheck. Check real-time wait times at the official O'Hare website or via the MyTSA app before departure.
All non-pre-cleared international arrivals are processed through US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in Terminal 5 regardless of arrival terminal. Mobile Passport Control (MPC) via the CBP One app and Global Entry kiosks at Terminal 5 can significantly reduce processing time. Global Entry is strongly recommended for frequent travellers — enrol in advance. If arriving on a pre-cleared Canadian route (e.g. some Air Canada flights), customs is completed before departure. Allow extra time for connections if arriving international into Terminal 5 and departing domestic from Terminals 1–3, as the transfer requires exiting security, taking the ATS, and re-clearing security.
