MIA is an American Airlines fortress hub — if you're on any other airline and need a Priority Pass lounge, the Turkish Airlines Lounge in Concourse H (Level 3, South Terminal, open 4am) and the Avianca/TAP Lounge in Concourse J (open 24 hours) are your best options, but both require being in the South Terminal; the Turkish Airlines Lounge in Concourse E (Level 2, Central Terminal) covers non-AA international passengers. If you're connecting or transferring between North Terminal (Concourse D) and South Terminal (H/J), note there is NO airside connection — you must exit security, walk or take the landside connector, and re-clear a different security checkpoint, so allow at least 45–60 minutes for such transfers. MIA has four security checkpoints serving Concourse D (North Terminal) and one shared checkpoint for the Central Terminal — each with TSA PreCheck lanes and CLEAR biometric available. The biggest security bottleneck is Concourse D during American's peak morning banks (5am–9am) and afternoon/evening banks (2pm–8pm) to Latin America — American handles 57% of all MIA traffic, so PreCheck is particularly valuable here. For Central Terminal (E, F, G) flights, the checkpoint is separate from Concourse D — follow signs carefully on arrival as misdirecting to a Concourse D checkpoint will add significant walking time. Once airside, the Skytrain people mover connects Concourse D stations 1–4 (free, automated), allowing movement between the northern end (Gate D1–D15) and southern end (Gate D30–D60) without walking the full concourse length. The D30 end of Concourse D is approximately a 15–20 minute walk from D1 without the Skytrain — use it. South Terminal (H and J) is a separate security checkpoint; transit from North Terminal to South Terminal requires exiting security and using the MIA landside walkways or driving.

Immigration

All international arrivals are processed through US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Federal Inspection Services, located in multiple concourses (D, E, F, G, H, J) depending on arrival gate — unlike many US airports, MIA processes arrivals at their arrival terminal rather than routing everyone to a single facility.
